Grit was a weekly newspaper, popular in the rural U.S., founded in December 1882. It carried the subtitle "America's Greatest Family Newspaper" and targeted small town and rural families with, by 1932, a circulation of 425,000 in 48 states (83% of its circulation was in towns of fewer than 10,000 inhabitants)

It introduces such delivery innovations as selling across the country by children and teenagers - many recruited by ads in comic books from the 1940's to the 1970's- as well as through direct mail,

At differents periods and always in black-and-white, such classics as "Blondie", "Donald Duck", "Flash Gordon", "Henry", "Joe Palooka", "Jungle Jim", "The Lone Ranger", "Mandrake the Magician", "Prince Valiant", were published amongst others.

In 1995 it became a a bi-monthly magazine.
