The Daily Independent was a daily newspaper printed in Murphysboro (Jackson County), Illinois.
The newspaper (also named "Murphysboro Daily Independent") was founded in 1891 and published until 1949.
"Mandrake the Magician" daily strips were published at least between 1946 and 1949, the precise dates remain to be determined with more details.
- Note : this newspaper should not be confused with the The Daily Independent (N.C) printed in Elizabeth City, North Carolina which also published Mandrake stories but at previous dates.
