Life and career
Joseph Vincent Connolly was born on February 7, 1895, in New Haven, Connecticut. His career[1] in journalism commenced in 1912 as a reporter for the New Haven Union. After a brief stint in New York prior to World War I, he enlisted in the Army, where he served as a lieutenant in a machinegun company until the end of the war.
