In 1982, Editorial Columba published the first issue of a title called Sandokan, with such classical strips as "Tarzan", "Gringo" by Carlos Gimenez, "Rip Kirby", "Popeye", "The Phantom" by Sy Barry, "Mandrake the Magician" by Fred Fredericks. The following year, the series changed from a weekly to a biweekly publishing. The gap in the weekly schedule was filled by a new biweekly series named Super Sandokan.
