In the 1960s the publisher also started to publish childrens' annuals. They merged with the Hazell Sun to form the British Printing Corporation in 1964, but retained the Purnell name for the childrens' books and annuals. Robert Maxwell took over the company in 1981, but the Purnell's name continued to be seen on annuals for a few more years.
