Mandrake's Magic Coin
A slightly smaller coin will fit inside the "coin shell", so it's easy to make a coin appear or disappear.
The token was listed in a catalogue of magic tokens; TAMS journal V.18 #5 Oct.1978 (part 2). It is # MT236 issued 1941 and the insert was a US 1 ct with the tail side ground down.
There is uncertainty about the origin of this token. Some suppose it originates from one of the magic kit's that were made in the years 1949 to 1957.
But the similarity between this token and the "Mandrake's Magic Club" badge indicates that this has something to do with the Radio Show. The coin shell could be a premium for "Mandrake's Magic Club" late 40s or Taystee Bread's Mandrake Magicians Club early 40s. Another possibility is that the token could be a candy premium put out by the Suchard Chocolate company about the same time the radio show was aired.

The similarity between "Mandrake's Magic Coin" and the "Mandrake's Magic Club" logo indicates that this might be part of the membereship package.
Note
At Forrest's Token Page it is suggested that the coin shell is:
*from the "Taystee Bread" club in 1941
*from one of the "Mandrake the Magician" Magic Kit from 1949 to 1957.
*a candy premium put out by the Suchard Chocolate company.

It is a connection between Mandrake's Magic Club and the "Mandrake the Magician" radio serial from 1940-1942. Taystee Bread, the sponsor for the radio serial had a similar club, but the logo and name are different. It is also a time gap between the "Taystee Bread" club in 1941 and "Mandrake's Magic Club" from 1948. It is still unknown if or where replays of the Mandrake radio serial was aired in 1948.

Membership Package

The similarity between "Mandrake's Magic Coin" and the "Mandrake's Magic Club" logo indicates that this might be part of the membereship package.

Note

At Forrest's Token Page it is suggested that the coin shell is:

 • from the "Taystee Bread" club in 1941
 • from one of the "Mandrake the Magician" Magic Kit from 1949 to 1957.
 • a candy premium put out by the Suchard Chocolate company.
