Gedeone Malagola was born in São Paulo on July 7, 1924 and died in Jundiaí on September 15, 2008. He was a Brazilian screenwriter, artist, scriptwriter and comic book editor who began his career in the 1940s after have learned drawing with his father, himself a painter. During his studies, he joined the architecture college, but finelly graduated in law. His most famous characters are "Raio Negro" and the horror series "O Lobisomem" (= "Black Lightning", not to be confused with the Marvel character) and "A Múmia".
He also himself released two fanzine magazines exclusively dedicated to Mandrake: Mandrake the Magician - O Livro! and Mandrake the Magician - Compacto. He met Lee Falk at the "Congresso Internacional de Histórias em Quadrinhos" held in Sào Paulo in November 1970 (see: Spotlight on Lee Falk - Participation in the comic conventions).
