The Daily Independent was a daily newspaper printed in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

The newspaper was published for a short period of time (from August 31, 1936 to August 13, 1937).

"Mandrake the Magician" Sundays pages were published in the Saturday newspaper edition at least from 1937, the precise dates remain to be determined with more details.

As Sundays pages were published in the comics section on the Saturday edition, they were issued with a six-days late after their usual release. On other days, strips were also publihed but without Mandrake.

  • Note : this newspaper should not be confused with the The Daily Independent printed in Murphysboro, Illinois which also published Mandrake stories but at later dates.
