The Pacific Stars & Stripes, established in 1945, was a specific version of the national "Stars & Stripes" newspaper released in several editions for troops operating in various U.S. military theaters. Until 1963, it was printed in Tokyo, Japan, especially for the U.S. troops stationed in the country after the World War II, then later in Washington, District of Columbia (USA) until 1998.

As a full page, and a delay of several weeks when compared to the original american newspapers, and from - at least - 1965 to 1971 (however it maybe already published from 1956 but it remains to verify), "Mandrake the Magician" Sunday strip have been published in the "Pacific Stars & Stripes" in a color Sunday extra comics section (which was published as soon as 1945 but only in black and white).

In the other comics, featured each sunday, were "Bringing Up Father", "Little Abner", "Flash Gordon", "Buz Sawyer", "Mr. Abernathy", "The Lone Ranger", "Mickey Mouse" , "Blondie", "Prince Valiant" and "Snuffy Smith" when the black and white daily edition only had, as usual comics, daily strips of "Terry and the Pirates" and "Steve Canyon" - war heroes -"Dick Tracy", "Blondie"and "Li'l Abner". Towards the end of the "Pacific Stars & Stripes" publishing, comics were oriented to funnier comics material.
